Tourist Route II Royal Łazienki - Wilanów Palace

1.      Polish Parliament and Senate A group of buildings located in Warsaw at 4/6/8 Wiejska Street. Building of the complex started in 1918, and it is growing constantly.

 2.      The Ujazdowski Castle – Ujazdów is one of the oldest places in Warsaw. A historic town was located here, and from here the Duke of Mazovia moved the manor to the Old Town. Currently, the Castle is the seat of the Centre for Contemporary Art. The present Castle was built in the early seventeenth century and then was rebuilt several times.

3.      Park Łazienki Królewskie Palace and Garden in Łazienki is the most beautiful planned area in Warsaw and one of the most beautiful in Europe, its greenery and architecture are equally stunning. The Palace and Garden home a park (76 ha of nature in the city center) and severals historic buildings. The park was created from transformation of a wildly growing forest, where wild animals lived. For 50 years now free piano concerts are held on Saturdays and Sundays in the summer, at the foot of the world's most famous monument of Frederic Chopin. The concerts gather crowds of tourists and music lovers.

The Palace on the Island the pearl of Polish architecture, one of the symbols of Warsaw, is the most important building in the Garden. Its history is closely connected with the reign of Stanisław August Poniatowski - the last king of Poland. It was him who decided to expand a small pavilion of Lubomirski's Bath at the site of one of his residences. The Palace, even thought it was damaged, it survived World War II.  It was reopned for sigtseeing in 1960.

White House – Situated at the Royal Promenade, it was built in 1774, designed by Dominik Merlini on the order of Stanisław August Poniatowski. Its unique interior includes gigantic paintings in the Dining Room, original Chinese wallpaper (from the second half of the eighteen century) in the Parlour, and the Cabinet in the form of an arbor decorated with paintings by Jan Bogumil Plersch. There is the authentic king’s bed in the Bedroom.

The Old Orangery – In its east wing has a wonderful interior, classified as the world's few genuine examples of court theaters. The interior is made of wood, and the audience, which consists of ground floor and lodges, is rich in decorative painting.

The Amphitheater – It was opened on the anniversary of the election of King Stanisław August, which was on the 7th of September in 1791. The Amphitheaterwas built accordingly to John Christian Kamsetzer’s project on the banks of the pond. It was modeled on ancient buildings. The audience reminds of the theater in Herculaneum, and it is topped with statues of famous playwrights. The stage imitates the ruins of the Roman Forum. The original solution was to separate the audience from the stage with water.

4.      The  Belvedere Palace – It was built in the seventeenth century, and since the mid-eighteenth century it had been the property of Stanisław August Poniatowski, who founded a faience manufacture there. In the years 1926-1935 minister of military Jozef Pilsudski lived there. Between 1939 and 1945, the German governor of Warsaw Ludwig Fischer lived there, and then since 1945 Boleslaw Bierut. Until 1994 the palace was the seat of the President of the Polish Republic. Currently, Belvedere is used for representational purposes, celebrations of military and diplomatic meetings with the leaders of foreign states authorities.

 5.      Wilanów Palace – Royal Palace in Warsaw, located in Royal Wilanów, is of baroque style. It was built between 1681 and 1696 for King Jan III Sobieski, it was designed by Augustine Locci. The palace, and the surrounding park and buildings, have kept its architectonical form,  historical and artistic values unchanged, despited the annexations, wars and occupations. The palace and park are also a place of cultural events, concerts and meetings. The most famous events include: The Royal Summer Concerts in the Rose Garden and the International Summer Academy of Early Music.
